Shell and Gemstone Meanings

Ever since man first saw their refection in the sun, gemstones have been associated with having special meaning and healing energy. Many people attribute supernatural powers to gemstones. Gemstones have been used to heal physical aliments, bring spiritual power, and gain emotional health. Stones give off vibrations and generate energy. Each gem, tuned to a particular frequency, has a special meaning.

In greek and Roman mythology shells were the mystic symbol of prosperity and regeneration and, in their association with the sea, the source of fertility. It is in the sea that life originated and is symbolized by the mythic birth of Venus (Aphrodite). To ancient christians and pilgrims, seashells were the symbol of St. James the Greater.

Abalone shell - Intimately connected to the sea - represents the tides of emotion. Harmony in relationships. The variety of colors represent change as the beauty of existence. Represents sensitivities to otheres and an easy flow of feelings.

Agate - Courage, strengt, symbolizes 3rd Eye, gives a spiritual love of truth, banishes fear.

Amber - Grounds and stabilizes, healing agent, acts as a filter, radiates light and heat.

Ammonite Fossil - Named for Ammon, the Egyptian god of Procreation and Life, these ancient marine mollusks (cephalopods) were similar to the modern squid, octopus and nautiloids. Ammonites became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous Period some 65 million years ago after a 330 million year survival on earth.

Amazonite - This stone balances feminine and masculine energy. It promotes kindness and practicality. It is an excellent stone for artists and for men. Pale azure blue amazonite is know as the lucky "Hope Stone". It will be lucky for all your hopes and dreams.

Amethyst - Protection, spiritual attunement, gives visions or opens spiritual and psychic centers, reduces mental tension, induces pleasant healing dreams, prevents over indulgence and encourages transformation and breaking of bad habits.

Aquamarine - This is the stone to help you be in touch with your spiritual being. Aquamarine is most powerful as a meditation stone, as it brings a great peace and serenity. Some say it will protect one against gossip.

Aventurine - A stone of opportunity; believed to attract prosperity. Some advise to keep an aventurine in your left pocket when you are buying a lottery ticket or playing any game of chance.

Carnelian - Gives feeling of well-being, recycles past-life experiences, speeds up law of karma.

Cat's Eye - Insight into one's own faults, treats the eyesCitrine - Cheerfulness, control over emotions, clear thought, overcomes mental blocks.

Chrysoprase - It strengthens the workings of insight and the higher consciousness. Encourages hope and joy. Gives clarity especially when dealing with a specific issue. Chrysoprase has been used as a cure for restlessness and helps to give protection on sea voyages.

Citrine - Said to open the mind to new thoughts and balance impatience and restlessness, gives joy. Citrine is long though to promote optimism. It also attracts abundance, and is known as the "merchant's stone," to be placed where one conducts business, not only to acquire positive wealth, but to maintain it. Good for mental focus, endurance, and self-esteem.

Coral - Energy and passion. Good for keeping thoughts in control for visualization and while meditating, helps arthritis.

Fire Agate- Fire Agate has a deep calming energy that brings security and safety. It is a protection stone with strong grounding powers. Hold a fire agate to inspire inner knowledge to emerge in the resolution of problems.

Fluorite - Grounds, holds and directs excess energy for highest efficiency and to be used when needed, centering tool. Fluorite should be kept in every room of the home. Fluorite is known as the "Genius Stone" as it increases concentration helps in decision-making.

Garnet -The stone of passionate devotion: to your family, your friends, yourself, and your own purpose in life. Attracts profound love, gives persistence, cures depression. The Garnet is a stone of purity and truth as well as a symbol of love and compassion.

Jade - Peace, tranquillity, soothes the eyes and emotions, for going backwards in time, wisdom, universal attunement, gives long-life and a peaceful death. Jade can be used to bring money into your life. Jade strengthens your mental faculties and assists in clear reasoning. Jade is also a protective stone, guarding against accidents and misfortune.

Jasper - A strong protection gemstone, jasper sustains and supports during times of stress. Improves sense of smell, strengthens one's will to do good, balances the emotions.

Kunzite - Balances emotional and mental bodies.

Labradorite - Symbol of opened Third Eye. This stone stimulates imagination. It can help develop enthusiasm and thus, new ideas. Labradorite assists one to see more clearly in meditation. Labradorite is a power stone, allowing you to see through illusions and determine the actual form of your dreams and goals. It is excellent for strengthening intuitions.

Lapis Lazuli - Stone of friendship, helps one to be more kind and helpful, spiritual attunement, connects us to our resonating star, it is a stone of fidelity.

Malachite - Prosperity, treats the eyes and abnormal blood sugar levels, treats circulatory diseases.

Moonstone - Calming, good for meditation, spiritual guidance and protection while traveling, prophecy, love stimulator, brings happy experiences to those who are sensitive.

Onyx - Stone of separation, can be used for purpose of release, to end a bothersome relationship.

Opal - Divination and prophecy, balances chakras, used for centering self, aids in channeling and teaching truths to others, stone of peace, anchor of hope. Pink Opal is a stone of peace and tranquility for the aura. It is especially noted for its energies in healing emotions.

Pearl - Associated with the ministry and faith, wisdom through experience, and attracts engagements and love relationships. Promotes prosperity and success. Pearls surround you with an aura of calm and beauty. They symbolize purity and honesty and bring out the best within us.

Peridot - Gift from the Sun, helps us open our inner sight to the spiritual Sun, develops inner vision and the ability to look into the future, frees one of jealous thoughts and counteracts negative emotions.

Quartz Crystal - Raises one's vibration, bridges the material world with other realms, it has the ability to store and transmit energy, excellent for healing on all levels and for meditation.

Rhodochrosite - Rescue remedy stone, inspires forgiveness and heals emotions, attracts love into our life. This stone soothes the heart, stimulates warm feelings of love and compassion. It also benefits the creative process promotes intuition.

Ruby - Spiritual wisdom, focuses mental concentration on a specific thing, confidence - stone of life and energy.

Rutilated Quartz - Rutile in quartz magnifies the basic energy of the quartz and aids in the healing process.

Rose Quartz - Brings more love into the life. It helps the user feel a strong sense of self-worth, therefore being worth love. Rose quartz is the stone of universal love. Sapphire - Treats mental illness, it attracts good people into the life, calms the nerves, suitable for meditation, gives pure insight and God truth, stone of chastity.

Sardonyx - Bands together those of like natures, links loved ones on an emotional level, ties up loose ends.

Tiger Eye - Purifies the system after over-indulgence, protective stone, treats diseases of the eyes.

Tourmaline - Balances and Protects.

Black Tourmaline - Very protective, good for those who have to deal with negativity.

Green Tourmaline - Business success, soothes the nerves, brings the brow and crown chakras into balance.

Pink Tourmaline - Works on the heart chakra, increases the will to love and to sacrifice.

Watermelon Tourmaline - Balances emotions, good for relationships and for those who are counselors, balances the metabolism.

Turquoise - Reminds us of our spiritual nature, gives protection, stone of friendship. September 23rd Workshop:
Changing Seasons Earrings

Learn basic wire working techniques and create your own interchangeable silver earrings. In this workshop you will learn about different wires and wire gauges, how to create a P loop, eye loop and wire wrapped loop. You will then wire wrap your choice of 3 different color Czech glass leaf beads to add to your earrings. These beads can be changed out with the season. You will end up with enough beads to create 3 different pairs of earrings!
