Making Paper
Bead Bracelets

Learn how to make these easy and pretty Eco-Friendly Paper Beads.

Reuse those old magazines to create beautiful beads. This eco-friendly Jewelry project is great for kids and it requires stuff you probably already have in your home. To make these beautiful beads you will need:

A straw (or you could use a wooden skewer which will make smaller holes)

Old magazines

Glue

1) Find colorful pages in the magazines and tear or cut them out.

2) Cut the magazine pages into thin triangle strips like those in the photo.

3) Starting with the widest side of your paper strip, begin rolling the paper on the straw. We put a small dab of glue on our paper as we were rolling to help hold it in place.

4) When you get to the end, dap a drop of glue to the last inch of the paper and finish rolling the paper strip to the end.

5) Continue holding the bead with the end under your finger and count to 20.

6) Slide the bead off the straw. (Your fingers may be a bit sticky.)

You’re done!

You can begin stringing your beads right away. (If you want to get professional, cover your beads with clear nail polish and let dry over night.)

For our bracelets, we used inexpensive wooden beads found at the local craft store as spacers.

Special thanks to Hannah (age 7) and Harry the Hedgehog (age unknown) for helping me demonstrate how to make these beads!

Happy Beading!
